Yes, walking, running, skipping or strolling are permitted. The race course time limit is 2-hours, at which time the course will re-open to vehicle traffic. See Race Course FAQ section for additional info.

The race is now in its 46th annual production. The first race started at the steps of the state capitol in 1978. Originally expecting about 500 participants, an estimated 3,400 runners and walks attended the 1st annual event. More on the race’s history here.

Yes, Embassy Suites Hotel by Hilton is located at the race starting line on South Congress Avenue. For booking information see Lodging.

The start line and finish line are a couple of blocks away from each other — just under a 1/2-mile apart.

  • The starting line is at Barton Springs Road and South Congress Avenue, 305 S. Congress Ave.
  • The finish line is on West Riverside Drive at Vic Mathias Shores, 900 W. Riverside Dr.

For the protection and safety of all participants the presence of animals in corral A or B is prohibited. Dogs and their owners will not be permitted to enter corrals A or B at the start line regardless of their corral bib assignment. Leashed dogs and their owners are allowed to start in subsequent corrals C through F.

Any animal displaying aggressive behavior will be removed immediately from corral with their owner by Austin Police. Participant is subject to disqualification and removal from the race without refund.

Statesman Capitol 10,000 has a NO REFUND policy. ENTRY FEES AND DONATIONS ARE NOT REFUNDABLE for any reason. This policy applies regardless of whether you become injured, have an unexpected business/family emergency, pregnancy, travel issues, etc. There are NO exceptions. Any inquiry regarding this policy will be directed back to this statement.

Statesman Capitol 10,000 has a NO TRANSFER & NO DEFERRAL policy. ENTRY FEES ARE NOT TRANSFERABLE for any reason. Athletes may not give or sell their entry to anyone else. Any athlete who is found to have given away or sold their race entry could be permanently banned from competing in this and other events.

Check Spam Filter
Many times if you use the same email address for multiple entries your Internet Service Provider (ISP) will flag our confirmation emails as spam since you are receiving multiple emails at once that look 99% identical.

Manage My Registration
If you did not receive a Confirmation Payment Receipt or Registration Receipt email, log into your EnMotive Runner Profile to verify your registration is complete. Once logged into your account you can resend the confirmation email.

Strollers & baby joggers are allowed for your children, provided you opt in during your registration to inform us that you plan to push your child. It is race policy to have every individual participating in the race officially registered. In the event the parent/guardian and child are separated from one another the registrant’s race number has important information that is essential for race officials in reuniting both parties. Strollers & baby joggers are defined as something that is pushed, not pulled.

Regardless of the corral assignment issued to a participant on race bib, strollers & baby joggers are not permitted in corrals A, B or C for the start. Strollers & baby joggers are permitted in subsequent corrals D, E or F.

Race Safety

Code of Conduct

The use of headphones and earbuds are strongly discouraged. If you choose to wear headphones or earbuds, please ensure that you can hear all announcements and remain aware of your surroundings, including other participants.

Yes, we encourage costumes and have prizes for creativity. The costume should not cover the entire face. Refrain from costumes that extend beyond the body or impede others.

Yes, you can have someone else pick up your packet, but we ask you send a copy of your QR code and / or copy of your ID. The QR code can be found in the registrant’s confirmation email. Photo of registrant’s ID is also accepted.

Exchanges will not be serviced at the Health & Fitness Expo. In an effort to accurately fulfill all participant registrations, substitutions will not be accepted until each participant has had an opportunity to receive their requested size at the Expo. Exchanges will be accepted during the Finish Line Festival on race day on Vic Mathias Shores at the Information Tent. Exchanges will be accepted on a first come, first served basis while sizes and quantities are available.

Participants may edit their race shirt size by logging into their EnMotive Registrant Profile. Deadline to make changes to registrant information is April 13, 2023. From any handheld device, log into your EnMotive Runner Profile account to view your results and photos.

Race Shirt Exchange or Pick-up will be available at the Austin American-Statesman one-week following the race.

All race participants are assigned a race bib number at packet pick-up. A green label with a black letter will be added to the bib. The letter on your label will correspond to one of six starting corrals.

DO NOT BE LATE TO YOUR CORRAL
To ensure each corral is advanced to the start line for an on-time start, CORRAL GATES WILL CLOSE 5-MINUTES PRIOR TO CORRAL START TIME. If you are unable to get to your assigned corral before the gates are closed you must start in the next available open corral.

Allow between 1.5-2.0 hours once you arrive in downtown Austin to locate parking, use the restroom, access your start corral and hear pre-race announcements.

  • Corral assignments are organized by participant pace.
  • Participants with similar pace will be grouped together.
  • Participants are allowed to move backward in the letter sequence but not forward.
  • Groups that want to start together should start with the latest letter.
  • If you are unable to get to your assigned corral before the gates are closed you must start in the next available open corral.

Four Aid Stations are located along the course approximately one-and-half miles apart. Each Aid Station is supplied with water and minor first aid supplies like band aids and ice packs. Each Aid Station is approximately half a city blocks in length; participants are advised to continue moving through the Aid Station if the first tables are too crowded to conveniently obtain fluids.

Yes, personal hydration systems such as Camelbacks, hand-held water bottles and waist water bottle carriers are permitted.

Yes. The Statesman Capitol 10,000 race has a course time limit of 3-hours and 30-minutes for wheelchair athletes (7:30 a.m. start) and 2-hour limit for all other participants, at which time the course will re-open to vehicular traffic. Participants not maintaining the pace to finish within these times will be directed to get onto the sidewalk by race officials and the finish line will not remain open beyond this finishing time.

IF YOU ARE NOT CAPABLE OF MAINTAINING AN AVERAGE PACE OF 20 MINUTES PER MILE PACE, WE RECOMMEND YOU NOT PARTICIPATE AT THIS TIME.

Digital clocks are positioned at the following locations along the course:

  • Starting Line
  • 5K Marker
  • Finish Line

Digital clocks provide the elapsed event time (gun time). The elapsed event time begins with the 10K start at 8:00 a.m. Mile markers are positioned at each mile. Digital clocks at the finish line will display unofficial finish times. 

For the safety of our participants NONE of the above are allowed on the race course.

The B-tag is a timing device that is will be affixed to the back of each race bib. DO NOT REMOVE the B-tag from your race bib. Please DO NOT BEND the bib number or the B-tag. The tag houses an electronic device that is read by timing mats lining the roadway at the starting line. When the tag passes across the mats the tag is read by an electronic field. This field is similar to scanning food at the grocery store check-out counter. Once the tag is read, a start time is registered for your start. The same process is conducted at the finish to calculate your finish time.

No. The B-tag is a one-time electronic timing device. The B-tag will not be collected at the finish line.

From any handheld device, scan the QR-code located on the front of your race bib. Log into your EnMotive Runner Profile account to view your results and photos.

At the Finish Line Festival look for large feather flags in the middle of Vic Mathias Shores for the race results tent. At the tent runners are able to look up there unofficial race results.

The top three participants in each age group will receive their awards in the mail when the official results are confirmed. Age group medals are awarded based on runners chip time. The Statesman Capitol 10,000 Race Director tabulates all the results and all decisions are final. Age groups for Male & Female are as follows:
12 & under, 13-15, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89, 90-94, 95 & over.

The King & Queen of the Hill Challenge pits runners to compete up one of the notable hills on W. 15th St. at West Ave. All participants will be timed on the ascent. The fastest participant times between the two timing mats on the ascent will be crowned King & Queen of the Hill.

Polka dot jersey awarded to one male and one female in each of the three categories: Overall, Masters, and 19 & under.

If you have already registered as an individual and you would like to change your participant profile to Team Captain and create a team, please register your request on our Race Inquiry page for quicker response. Only the Support Administrator can make this transfer. To help us address your request more efficiently include TRANSFER TO TEAM CAPTAIN in the subject line of your email. 

The Team Captain must register first to start a new team. There is no minimum quota for team members.

Anyone who has registered to be part of the team is listed on Captain’s View/Manage Team page. Only the Captain can request the removal of a team member. Only the Support Administrator can remove the team member. To help us address your request more efficiently include REMOVE TEAM MEMBER in the subject line of your inquiry if you want to remove a team member.

Inviting team members to the team is simple with EnMotive tools.

  • Log into your EnMotive Registration Profile to view your editing dashboard.
  • Click on My Account in the upper right-hand corner of the page.
  • Click on Teams on the left side menu.
  • Scroll to the Team’s name you would like to invite teammates to join.
  • Click on Invite Teammate
    • To invite someone who is already registered for the event, but not yet on a team, search for them by last name.
    • To invite someone who is NOT registered for the event, send them a personal invitation link to join.
  • Log into your EnMotive Registration Profile to view your editing dashboard.
  • Click on the Action button on the top right corner of the page to display Captain tools.
  • Invite Team Members is the third menu item. Members can be invited by email our with a personal invitation link.

Anyone who has registered to be part of the team is listed on Captain’s View/Manage Team page. Only the Captain can request the removal of a team member. Only the Support Administrator can remove the team member. Race Inquiry

The first 40 teams to reach 35 members and opt into a team tent, will receive a reserved picnic table at the Finish Line Festival. Teams must have 35 registered members by 3/26/2023, 11:59 p.m. to qualify for optional group packet prep and team tent area at the Finish Line Festival. Team Captains have the sole discretion to opt into both team perks at the time of registration.

Open Teams – Competition & Awards

The Cap10K Team Challenge includes two categories of competition for each our our four Team Divisions (Social, Corporate, Nonprofit & Military/First Responder). Awards will be presented to:

  • Fastest Division Team (top 10 team members)
    • Fastest team will receive a team trophy
    • Second and Third place teams will be recognized.
  • Largest Division Team
    • Largest team will receive a team trophy
    • Second and Third place teams will be recognized.

School Teams – Competition & Awards

The Cap10K School Challenge includes three divisions: Elementary, Middle & High School. Awards will be presented to:

  • Fastest Division Team (top 5 girls and top 5 boys; adults times excluded)
    • Top girls team and boys team in each Division (Elementary, Middle & High school) will receive a team trophy. Second & Third place team in each Division will receive a team plaque.
    • Top three girls team and boys team in each Division (Elementary, Middle & High school) will receive a check donation to school’s PTA (1st Place $300, 2nd Place $200 and 3rd Place $100). Donation awarded to school’s Parent Teacher Association or school fund following verification of official results.
  • Largest Division Team (includes students and administrators)
    • One trophy awarded to top team in each Division (Elementary, Middle and High School).

Captains with 5 or more team members qualify for advance packet pick up at the Austin American-Statesman’s New drive-up location 4/10–4/12. Team packets will be grouped in bulk if, Captain opted in to picking up team packets and distributing to team members. If Captain opted out of picking up team packets, each team member is responsible for picking up their individual packet up at the Expo. Only the Team Captain or pre-determined designee can claim team’s grouped packets. Captain can pick up team’s packets on these days:

  • Monday, April 10, 2023, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, April 11, 2023, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, April 12, 2023, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The Team Captain has the sole discretion to choose how packets will be distributed to team members. Please check with your Team Captain for instructions on how to claim your individual race packet. Captains have the choice to collect all member packets in bulk and distribute to team or team members have to pick up their individual race packets at the Health & Fitness Expo.
