Race Safety

Safety is our top priority. The production of the race is a coordinated effort among multiple municipal partners to ensure a safe and secure event. Please read the following information below to make your participation a success.

Event Officials

All participants must follow the instructions of event officials, which includes Statesman Capitol 10,000 (Cap10K) Race, Statesman social run staff, and/or volunteers. Participants must retire at once from the race if ordered to do so by event officials, medical staff, or any governmental authority, including firefighters and police officers.

Sportsmanship

Any participant who conducts him- or herself in an unsportsmanlike manner or who exhibits offensive behavior or language to event officials, staff, and/or volunteers may be disqualified. All participants should read and adhere to the race Code of Conduct. Unsportsmanlike conduct includes, without limitation, the provision of false or misleading information on an event application.

Weather

In the event of inclement weather prior to 8:00 AM, the start time of this event may be delayed by up to 1 hour. Should the weather conditions continue to be unsafe for the run, the event will be canceled for all participants. Athletes will be notified of event changes via email, social media, and by verbal instruction when possible.

Medical Direction

Authorized medical personnel may require a participant to stop at any point on the racecourse for an examination. If in the sole opinion of authorized medical personnel, it is in the best interest of the participant’s health and welfare, medical personnel may remove a participant from the Event. Any participant failing to immediately accept the direction of authorized medical personnel will be disqualified and may be banned from future Events. Participants allowed by medical personnel to continue on the racecourse will not have received illegal assistance and will not be penalized.

Lost Child

Adult supervision is required for all youth participation age 10 & under. It is race policy to have every individual participating in the race officially registered and wear a race bib number. In the event, the parent/guardian and child are separated from one another the registrant’s race bib has important information that is essential for race officials in reuniting both parties. Report any missing child immediately to race officials, volunteers, police, and medical staff or call 9-1-1.

Cap10K Health & Safety Plan for COVID-19

The 46th running of the Statesman Capitol 10K presented by Baylor Scott & White Health is scheduled to return live to the streets of Austin, Texas on Sunday, April, 16, 2023.

Event organizers are working closely with the City of Austin, including Austin Public Health (APH) and Austin Center for Events (ACE), to safely produce a race weekend experience for event attendees and the Austin community. Preparations for the April 2023 race will align with local and state coronavirus guidelines.

How are you preparing for the 2024 Statesman Capitol 10K? Will event attendees be required to adhere to specific coronavirus (COVID-19) guidelines?

We are working closely with the City of Austin, including Austin Public Health (APH) and Austin Center for Events (ACE), to provide a safe and enjoyable race weekend experience for all event attendees. Preparations for the event will align with local and state coronavirus (COVID-19) guidelines. We recognize guidance is likely to change between now and April. For this reason, the event will provide specific guidelines to registered participants in the months and weeks leading up to race weekend.

When will you share more details about what event attendees can expect for the 2024 Statesman Capitol 10K (requirements, mitigation efforts, operational changes, etc.)? 

We are committed to sharing event plans in a measured way to ensure our updates reflect what you will see race weekend. Our team is developing operational plans for various scenarios. We anticipate having more specific updates about race weekend and in early Spring when we have a better understanding of the environment the event will operate in.
