the trail foundation

2015-2016 Race Beneficiary

The Trail Foundation helps protect and enhance the Butler Trail at Lady Bird Lake through careful improvements to the Trail and advancing conservation. Working in cooperation with the Austin Parks and Recreation Department, it has built restrooms and water fountains; planted native trees and flowers; renovated lakefront gathering areas and trailheads; put in mile markers; and helped create the world-class Boardwalk that has enhanced the safety, usability and scenic beauty of the Butler Trail.

Our mission is to protect and enhance the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail at Lady Bird Lake. Since our formation in 2003 as a 501(c)(3), we have fulfilled our mission through careful improvements to the Trail’s infrastructure and environment, while honoring the original vision of the Trail’s founders. In 2003, we formed the Town Lake Trail Foundation to continue the work of the Citizen’s Committee and ensure that the heart of Austin stays strong. In 2008, inspired by the renaming of the lake, we adopted the name The Trail Foundation. Our passionate stewards work diligently to guide the vision of The Trail Foundation and to protect and enhance the Trail at Lady Bird Lake.
