Jeff Simecek Statesman Cap10K Race Director
Austin, TX —The 47th annual Statesman Capitol 10,000 presented by Baylor Scott & White Health is gearing up for another year of celebrating Austin’s vibrant running community. Over decades of involvement in the Austin community, the Cap10K run has become a spring staple for runners all over Texas and beyond, not only because of the thousands of runners it gathers each year but also for its celebration of its participants and the community it serves at the Finish Line Festival. Sticking to their local roots, the Statesman Cap10K team is proud to announce that the Austin-based supergroup, Shinyribs, will be headlining the post-race Finish Line Festival.
Cap10K Race Director, Jeff Simecek, believes the overall participant experience is paramount to a successful event from start to finish and that local brands and entertainment play a key role in the hometown aspect of the race.
“As Austin grows and changes, the Cap10K team works hard to keep the local flavor of Austin,” says Simecek, “and nothing says ‘Austin’ more than Shinyribs and the fun their music will bring to the Finish Line Festival.”
“The post-race Finish Line Festival is all about runners celebrating their accomplishment in a uniquely Austin way with friends and family,” Simecek continued, “Shinyribs is a Texas favorite, and I can’t wait for race day to see them bring their music, energy and showmanship to the event.”
Frontman for Shinyribs, Kevin Russell said, “We’re bringing Groover’s Paradise to the fatigued and euphoric. Whether your 10K is run-of-the-mill or historic, you’ll vibe with our country soul crunch and electrolyte punch. No fainting on the dance floor!“
The Statesman Cap10K is supported by an A-List roster of sponsors, including Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Greater Texas Credit Union, H-E-B, Covert Bastrop, Orange Theory Fitness, Siete, Kerbey Lane All Day Cafe, LaCroix, JuiceLand, Camp Gladiator, Rightway and KVUE.

Shinyribs defies genres as a sonic melting pot of Texas Blues, New Orleans R&B funk, horn- driven Memphis Soul, country twang, border music, big band swing, and roots-rock. The Austin-based nine-piece (sometimes 10-piece) supergroup is led by Kevin Russell, the charismatic frontman with colorful suits and extravagant shoes who continuously swaps out an electric guitar for a ukulele and never falls short of creating a cinematic experience with on- stage antics that often include him donning a light-up cloak or leading a conga line through the crowd.
Shinyribs was named Best Austin Band at the Austin Chronicle’s Austin Music Awards in both 2017 and 2018. They have also been awarded Album of the Year for I Got Your Medicine (2017) and Best 2020- Themed Song for “Stay Home” (2020).
