This month’s holiday themed social run will take us out to the Lakeway area and Texas hill country. This special edition of Austin 10K’r social run will visit a scenic route in the Rough Hollow community. The Hot Chocolate ‘n’ Marshmallows Run will start and finish at the Highland Village Community Center. The center has an outdoor courtyard and an indoor pavilion that we will meet at before we start. The community center pavilion has indoor restrooms and always a deal maker for families, a children’s playscape. The Hot Chocolate run has three different routes to choose from. For those just getting started we have a Marathon Kids family 1-mile route that starts from the community center and travels straight down Highlands Blvd. sidewalk on leisurely out-and-back course. For those needing to get the heartrate up a little the 3-mile figure eight route will criss cross through the Rough Hollow neighborhood. The 6-mile route includes a brief extension off the 3-mile route to challenge your endurance. Although this is a sleepy neighborhood we encourage everyone to use the paved sidewalks along the entirety of each route.
Events are run and walk friendly, variable in distance, free, open to the public and begin and end at Austin American-Statesman. Parking is FREE for social runs at the Statesman. On occasion Austin 10K’rs will partner with other organizations for our social run that is not at the Statesman, check each event for detailed instructions on where to meet. Baby joggers and leashed pets are always welcomed.
Event route distances vary between 3-6 miles however, you always have the option to u-turn at any point to match your fitness ability. Event route surfaces will vary from sidewalks and crushed granite to paved pathways and boardwalk. This is a self-guided and self-paced activity. There are no street closures or directional signage marking the route.
Each event will incorporate a creative theme that highlights the culture of Austin and the Cap10K. Arrive a little early for meet ‘n’ greet with the race staff, event partners and fellow runners. Before we start each run we will review the event route, identify any notable sights to see and answers any questions. Maps, bottled water, high fives and selfies will be shared at each event.

Light set-up and clean-up opportunities available for those who want to sandwich their run with volunteering before and after the meet-up. Also, looking for those local yokels who’ve been their-done that, to share their experience for running and walking in Austin.
