Local Training Services Reference Guide
Austin is thriving with great local training opportunities for this year’s Cap10K. Novice, intermediate and advanced runners alike have participated in the event annually and many of them continue to seek out the best recommendations, advice and referrals on training. We’ve composed this list of local training service providers for your convenience. The first step to completing a 10K goal is to learn how to achieve it and training instruction can be helpful to recreational athletes that want to realize the 10K distance.

The LARGEST 10K in Texas (7th largest in the country) with well over 20,000 runners and walkers each year with costumes, dogs, kids, and adults alike. Yes, the course is challenging but it’s nothing Rogue can’t prepare you for.

Camp Gladiator is a four week adult fitness boot camp that promises a motivating and challenging environment where men and women of all ages and fitness levels can push themselves. Campers should expect a total body workout. A typical session could include interval training, sprint and agility drills, stations, plyometrics, body weight strength drills, cardio mix, and much more. Camp Gladiator is designed to increase your functional strength, speed, stamina and, most importantly, to deliver results. CG is the ideal program for cross training in preparation for the Cap10K.

The Austin Runners Club is pleased to offer several free training programs for anyone wanting to participate. Training is offered year-round, with extra emphasis on preparing runners for Fall & Spring races. This program is based on the innovative Furman Institute of Running and Scientific Training (FIRST) training techniques. Austin Youth Fitness running group’s focus is on improving running endurance and overall fitness, developing “functional” strength, flexibility, and improving core strength and body alignment. Further, participants will likely see improvements in self-image, confidence, attitude, social-interpersonal-relationship-skills, as well as ability to focus on tasks and school-work.

Your invited to join us as we revisit the best of Austin running by exploring some unique downtown training routes. Training routes are Cap10K staff organized runs or walks which are variable in distance, FREE, open to the public and begin and end at Austin American-Statesman’s West parking lot. Social run route distances vary between 3-6 miles and will be scheduled regularly throughout the year. Each meeting will incorporate a creative theme that highlights the culture of Austin and the Cap10K. Maps, bottled water, nutritional bars, high fives and selfies will be shared at each meeting.

ACT Running’s Beginner/Intermediate program makes training for the Capitol 10K attainable, enjoyable and down right fun! By using interval running (3 minutes run: 1 minute walk) three day per week, you’ll safely build to the goal distance. Be a part of a supportive, noncompetitive team that will help you reach your goal. Participants will receive weekly training tips via e-mail, a technical running shirt and coach-led workouts. A two month base of 5+ weekly miles is recommended.

Austin’s premier women-only training program since 2002 welcomes women of all fitness levels, ages, shapes and sizes. Runners of all ages, shapes, sizes, and abilities come together at Core Running Company. Tuesday(6:30pm) Coach Doug Framke coaches an interval speed workout on local tracks and trails. Wednesday(7:00pm) we gather for a 5k social run, well attended and populated with college students and San Marcos locals. Saturday(6:30am) we meet for the “long run” and often run on the historical “El Camino Real” All runs are free of charge. Our goal is to fight obesity in America by motivating children and adults to stay physically active. Nowadays, video games are rage. It’s our goal to teach the kids to start and maintain active lifestyles when they are still young and they are less likely to become over weight. Adults, you sit at your desk all day and don’t focus on good eating habits.
It’s certainly an admirable feat to run 26.2 miles, and it’s not for everyone. A marathon isn’t the only way to lose weight. We want to help people to set attainable goal to run regularly a 5K’s, 10K’s, or a Half Marathon; and can be also a healthy path for people looking to slim down. You might need a tip how to improve or to run a personal best or you just want to be fit; our training group is here for you.

Come get speedy for the Statesmen Cap10K and other races with No Excuses Running. All running abilities are welcome to join the FREE No Excuses-except Lightning Monday & Wednesday workout groups. In 10 years only 3 workouts have been cancelled due to lightning and workouts are held even on holidays, so you know there is always someone to workout with on Monday (Cedar Valley Middle School track) & Wednesday (Brushy Creek Lake Park trails) at 6pm. These speed workouts can be tailored to any race distance. Bring your own water. Dress appropriately for the weather. Team Spiridon provides quality training at a reasonable cost to runners who fundraise for animal charities. We believe in running as a way to change individual lives, our communities, even the world. We work closely with great organizations like Emancipet, Austin Pets Alive!, Love-a-Bull, the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter, and others, and host the RuffTail Runners program, which gets people out running with shelter dogs across the United States.
