High Schools

Engaging high school students in fun, active, healthy events is something schools and parents strive to deliver across our communities. The Statesman is proud to be a supporter of high schools and teachers with the Statesman Cap 10K High School Challenge. The 37th annual Statesman Cap 10K is on Sunday, April 6, 2014. The Statesman Capitol 10,000 is the largest 10K race in Texas and one of the top 10 in the nation. Seasoned runners or beginners are welcome to join the fun at our rite of spring in downtown Austin. The race will end at the Finish Line Festival with entertainment, activities, awards and contests – including awards for largest school teams, school spirit contest, and fastest times! Once you have crossed the finish line, please make your way to the main stage so your team can be judged for largest team and greatest spirit awards. You must be present to win.

The School Challenge is a great way for your school to be involved with the Statesman Cap 10K. There are many benefits to participating in the Statesman Cap 10K High School Challenge. Participation in the High School Challenge shows that you truly value health and wellness at your school!

Registration Instructions

Creating School Challenge Team – School Champion

STEP 1: The School Champion (Lead Teacher or Team Captain) logs into Cap 10K registration site hosted by Active. On the Active.com site you will be prompted to join Active to create a log in for team registration.

STEP 2: School Champion creates the team by making a “dummy” registration. When creating that “dummy” registration, the lead teacher/school champion MUST enter the school name as it is commonly used and commonly spelled. Example: Bryker Woods Elementary or Clint Small Middle School.

STEP 3: Simply select Statesman Cap 10K and register as normal until you get to the portion of registration section labeled Team Information:

  • Under “Team Information” select “Create a Team” and a box for your unique Team Name will show up. Complete the form with your commonly used school name or Team Name and take note it for future reference in recruiting more members.
  • Team Champions have the option to make your team Private or Public. If your team is Public, anyone can see your team name on the drop down menu of registration. If your team is Private you can password protect your team and control the members that join by inviting members to it using the password.
  • School Champion or Lead Teacher registration does not register individual for the event, it only creates the school name in the system for participants to be added to.

STEP 4: Once the Team Champion “dummy” registration is complete, an automatic confirmation email from Active will sent to the Team Champion. The confirmation email will include a link to sign in and manage your team as well as invite new team members.

Adding Students to School Challenge Team

STEP 1: Obtain your unique team name from your School Champion (first person to register)

STEP 2: Go to cap10k.com then click “Register Now.”
