“For decades, both the Statesman Cap10K and the Austin Parks Foundation have been important parts of the city’s vibrant makeup. We are inspired by the APF’s “People Plus Parks” commitment, ensuring that Austin’s 300-plus parks, trails and green spaces are better for everyone, and are honored to support it,” said Susie Gray, publisher of the Austin American-Statesman.

The Austin Parks Foundation’s mission is to improve the quality of life for people in Austin by addressing the city’s funding and resource gap in order to develop, maintain and enhance the area’s parks, trails and green spaces. From volunteer workdays and park activation programming to large capital improvement projects, APF has been at the center of promoting park development, maintenance, accessibility and improvements in Austin and Travis County.

“We are very grateful to have been selected as the beneficiary of the 40th annual Statesman Capitol 10,000,” said Austin Parks Foundation Executive Director, Colin Wallis. “Austin parks are fundamental to the exceptional quality of life we enjoy in our city, providing a variety of resources and recreation for tens of thousands of Austinites every day. Financial support, like that from the Statesman Cap10K, will ensure our growing city has safe, beautiful and high-quality green spaces today and for generations to come.”

The Cap10K is the largest 10K race in Texas and one of the top 10 in the nation. The iconic Austin race began in 1978 with 3,400 participants. In 2016, the race had more than 20,500 registered participants. Additional race information is available at
