Betzy Jimenez’s life is a bit of a whirlwind, an idiom that also can be used to describe her running style and the feeling other runners get when she blows past them on the way to the finish line.

Jimenez, a former all-Big 12 cross country and track standout at the University of Texas, rallied in midrace and sprinted to victory Sunday in the women’s competition at the Statesman Capitol 10,000. She finished in 35 minutes, 27 seconds, just six seconds in front of Meagan Nedlo, who raced at the 2012 U.S. Olympic marathon trials. San Antonian Amy Shackelford, who finished first at the Bayou City Classic 10K in Houston last month, placed third in 36:11.
